Youth Leadership - Growing Future Leaders
Conventional practices in Africa confine of leadership in society to adults. Yet consider the following: Bill Gates was only 19 when he launched Microsoft, Steve Jobs was 21 when he launched Apple Computer, Richard Branson (founder of Virgin) was 16 when he began his entrepreneurial activities, and Nelson Mandela was 26 when he co-founded the ANC Youth League. These are all examples of youth who overcame the shackles placed by society on them and rose to become some of the greatest business and political leaders of all time. This session will examine exciting initiatives taking place across Africa in the arena of youth leadership development and mentoring, such as the African Leadership Academy.
