The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) is a country monitoring mechanism whereby participating countries evaluate governing policies and practices in light of objectives for sustainable growth and development.
With reviews being conducted in several African countries, monitored by the African Development Bank, the APRM Secretariat and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, progress shown is that a stable positive sentiment is rising across Africa.
The South African APRM Self Assessment Report was officially handed over by the country’s focal point, Minister Geraldine Fraser Moleketi, to the visiting APRM Country Review delegation at a function held at the Presidential Guest house on 12 July 2006. The Country Review team, led by Professor Adedeji (check sp) spent 3 weeks visiting the various provinces and stakeholders in South Africa, conducting interviews on the constituent’s perspectives of the SA Self Assessment Report.
A meeting was held with the business sector on 24th July 2006 at the offices of BUSA, where representatives of business such as the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, Business Unity SA, the Institute of Directors, the NBF provided the visiting delegation with feedback on the challenges and opportunities of business operating in South Africa.
